We're Off

Although our flight does not actually leave until tomorrow morning, we left early to avoid two hours of rush hour traffic, and what could be a confusing and frustrating Sacramento commute, as tomorrow is the first weekday morning that the I-5 northbound will be completely closed for repairs. The Hampton Inn San Francisco Airport is quite accommodating (friendly staff, free internet access, box of snacks, and parking for 34 days while we're in the UK). The scruffy semi-pro skateboarders sharing the facility this evening add to the charm, as does the delegation of Chinese scientists busily reading their itineraries, with close attention being paid to the laminated pictures of what appears to be their next meal. As my camera is buried somewhere in the electronics store display case masquerading as a carry-on, this stock photo of the snazzy Hampton Inn lap desk will have to do.

We are all jealous of your holiday and are looking forward to reading your posts here and hearing all about it when you get home. Judging by this first post, the comments will be pithy and rewarding. Maybe a book about your travels will follow. Love from all your family and prayers for safe travel.

Hey be carefull. Those europeans are tricky devils. And if the chinese guy tells you save the cheerleader and save the world, don't get on the plane.

Mom loved the flowers & chocolates, Ron. The bouquet turned out exceptionally good (even the hotel employees were talking about it).

I'll keep that in mind, trooper, even if whoever says it isn't Chinese ;-)
